Eco clinics destroyed, devastating hopes for motherhood

“My nerves are broken,” says Nura, a 26-year-old Palestinian woman, explaining that she was “nothing left”.

After many years of treatment, she became pregnant in July 2023. “I was pleased,” she recalls, describing the moment when she saw a positive pregnancy test.

She and her husband Mohammed decided to keep two more embryos at the al-Basma birth rate in Gaza, which helped them think, hoping to have more children in the future.

“I thought my dream finally came true,” she says. “But on the day the Israelis came, something in me said that it was over.”

Israel launched a military campaign in Gaza in response to Hamas’s cross -border attack on October 7, 2023, which killed about 1,200 people and took 251 people hostage.

Since then, at least 54,000 people have been killed in Gaza, the Ministry of Health reports.

Like the thousands of gas, Nuri and Mohammed had to escape repeatedly, and they could not get food, vitamins and medicines she needed for healthy pregnancy.

“We went for long hours and constantly moved from one place to another, against the background of horrific random explosions,” Mohammed says.

Seven months after pregnancy, Nura has suffered severe hemorrhage.

“She blew heavily, and we couldn’t even find a vehicle to take her to the hospital. We finally managed to transport her to the trash truck,” Mohammed explains.

“When we arrived, the miscarriage has already begun.”

One twins were stillborn and the other died a few hours after birth. Mohammed says there were no incubators for premature children.

“Everything went in a minute,” Nura says.

In addition to the loss of twins, they also lost frozen embryos.

Director of the Al-Basma Basque Center, Dr. Bach Golini, speaks with sadness and disbelief, because he explains that he was fired in early December 2023.

He is unable to provide the exact date or time, and last time the employees saw that the employee at the birth rate was working.

Dr. Golini says the most important part of the clinic housed two tanks, which housed almost 4,000 frozen embryos and more than 1000 sperm samples and eggs.

“Two destroyed incubators, which cost more than $ 10,000, were filled with liquid nitrogen, which retained the samples,” he says.

They needed to be headed regularly and “about two weeks before the shelling, nitrogen began to tell and evaporate.”

Director of the Laboratory Dr. Mohammed Agro, who was moved to Southern Gas, says he “reached the nitrogen composition in al-Nesirarate and received two tanks.”

But he says that the intensity of the shelling prevented him from delivering them to the clinic, about 12 km: “The center was fired and Nitrogen became useless.”

D -R Golini says the center is stored embryos for patients in other clinics as well as their own. “I’m talking about 4,000 frozen embryos. These are not just numbers, it’s people.

According to him, 100 to 150 women lost that it may have been their only chance to have children, as many cannot go again. “Some age, some of the cancer patients, others suffer from chronic diseases. Many have received strong fertility medicines that they can only get once. Starting again not easy.”

If you address the comments, the Israeli defense forces said the BBC that they would be able to respond better if a “specific strike time” is provided.

They added that they “act in accordance with international law and take precautions to minimize civil damage.”

In March this year, an independent UN International International Commission on the Occupied Palestinian Territory has been charged with “intentionally attacks and destroyed the Basma EVF clinic” to prevent birth among the Palestinians in Gaza. “

He also claimed that Israel has prevented help, including the medication necessary to provide safe pregnancy, childbirth, and the help of newborns from reaching women.

The commission continued to claim that the Israeli authorities “destroyed the Palestinians in part as a group … one of the categories of genocidal acts.”

At the time of the report, Israel’s permanent mission to the UN issued a statement saying that he “categorically dismissed these groundless allegations.”

And Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu answered angrily, calling on the Human Rights Council – who ordered the report – “anti -Semitic, rotten, terrorist and irrelevant body.”

Instead of focusing on war crimes committed by Hamas, he said he attacked Israel with “false allegations”.

The IDF press -secretary told BBC ARABIC that “it does not intentionally focus on the birth rate, and does not seek to prevent the birth rate of the Gaza.

“The claim that IDF is intentionally impressive with such sites, unjustified and demonstrates a complete misunderstanding of the IDF operations’ goal.”

D -rinini says all nine gas clinics have been destroyed or can no longer work.

Nura explains that she leaves her and many others with little chance to have a baby. People like Sarah Hudari, who began treatment for fertility in 2020. It was preparing for the implantation of the embryo when the war began in October 2023. The procedure never happened. “I watched everything falls apart,” she says.

And Islam Lyubbad, which clinic al-Basma helped to think in 2023, a few months before the war. But a month after the fighting began, she lost her baby like Nura. “There was no stability. We continued to move. My body was exhausted,” she says, remembering how she threw it.

Islam was more frozen embryos, which are stored at the Basic Basema center, but they are now lost, and it has no IVF clinics to try again.
