One person died in Turkey after an earthquake in Magnituda 6.1 on Sunday night in the northwestern province of Baliquesir.
The 81-year-old woman died shortly after she was pulled out of the rubble to the city of Sindirgi, which was an epicenter of the earthquake, said Turkish Interior Minister.
Sixteen buildings collapsed as a result of the jolts, and 29 were injured, Ali Jerlika added.
The Turkey’s Disaster Management Agency said the earthquake was recorded at about 19:53 local time (16:53 GMT), and felt as far away as Istanbul.
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan made a statement that wished to recover to all those who had suffered, and stated that all efforts to restore careful control.
“May God protect our country from any disaster,” he wrote on X.
Search and rescue operations have now been completed, and the Interior Minister said there were no other signs of serious damage and victims.
However, the images from the syndorm indicate that large buildings are fully flattened and piles of twisted metal and debris are rising.
Turkey is located at the intersection of three major tectonic plates and as a result, there is frequent seismic activity.
In February 2023, more than 50,000 people were killed when an earthquake of a magnet 7.8 devastated the southeastern region of the country.
Another 5,000 were killed in neighboring Syria.
For more than two years, hundreds of thousands of people remain moved from this earthquake.
