I think it goes without saying that the “superhero sex comedy,” or, as I like to call it, the “action porn” genre belongs to a niche audience, and for good reason. But you have to give it to a young Trey Parker and Matt Stone for trying to leave their mark on this particular weird genre with the 1997’s. Orgasmwhich made its limited theatrical rounds just before South Park becoming the intellectual property they are best known for. Marking Parker’s second feature-length directorial effort, Orgasm is production value leaps ahead of his first film, Cannibal! The Musical, but Orgasm It was always destined to be a cult classic that is hard to track down via streaming due to its controversial subject matter and execution.

At least at a time Orgasm is release, I have never seen a movie with an NC-17 rating that wasn’t hidden behind a beaded curtain at the video store, only to be accessed by the most perverted moviegoers. Ironically, Parker and Stone were beyond clever with their self-censorship, making the film quite tame by today’s standards. However, the rating was justified by the MPAA due to their use of sexually suggestive props despite the fact that Orgasm it has less nudity than in 2016 Deadpool if my calculations are correct.

Mormon Innocent Turned Porn Star

Orgasm 1997

Orgasm it doesn’t tell a complex story, but its premise is unique enough in that there aren’t many movies that start with an innocent missionary with menacing martial arts skills who is recruited by a sleazy movie smut prince to portray a pornographic superhero, which leads to kidnapping, gang violence, blackmail, and a real ray gun that subdues his subjects by driving them to the point of, how do you put it…extreme excitement and relief.

Trey Parker’s Joe Young is a happily naive young man with his whole life ahead of him, and he doesn’t want to get into any trouble when he agrees to work for Maxxx Orbison (Michael Dean Jacobs) portraying a fictional crime-fighting gigolo called Orgazmo, but agrees to act in his film because he wants to give his fiancee, Lisa (Robyn Lynn Raab), his dream wedding. Taking the job against his faith, Joe quickly finds himself signed to a contract, but under the condition that a stunt double takes his place during the harrowing scenes, ethically allowing him to star in a film that is so dirty.

Disadvantage of Success

Orgasm 1997

Thinking that his portrayal of Orgazmo will be a life-changing one-off gig, Joe is locked into a permanent deal with Maxxx after the film becomes a smash hit. . Unlike his co-star who portrays Orgazmo sidekick Choda Boy, Ben Chapelski (Dian Bachar of Basketball a Electric Apricot fame), Joe wants to leave the industry, but his hand is forced by Maxxx, who views the world through the lens of greed. Fortunately, Ben only works because he likes the thrill, and reveals to Joe that he’s an MIT graduate who created a real-life version of Orgazmo’s weapon, the Orgazmorator.

Armed with his new weapon of mass upheaval, Joe and Ben learn how deep Maxxx Orbison’s corruption goes when Lisa is kidnapped after Joe refuses to fulfill his contract. It’s up to Joe and Ben to take out Maxxx and save Lisa, while Dave the Photographer (Matt Stone) remains blissfully unaware of his surroundings despite the palpable tension on set. Now running through the mean streets of Los Angeles as the real-life Orgazmo and Choda Boy, they need to take out Maxxx and his evil henchman, A-Cup (David Dunn), and save the city from the bad guys.

Should be rated R

Orgasm 1997

Orgasms The NC-17 rating seems a bit harsh looking back on the film from now, but I can understand why the censors wanted to be careful with this film. At the time, Trey Parker and Matt Stone didn’t have nearly as much traction or resources as they do today, and sometimes you have to take your lumps when trying to get your footing in the film industry.

But I will say this: their self-censorship adds a whole layer of comedy to it Orgasm which elevates the humor to the point of absurdity. Whenever a mistress lifts her shirt to shoot a scene on the Maxxx soundstage, there is never full exposure, but instead a man’s bare bottom takes over the shot, which is still dangerous but much safer than full frontal nudity . You can say what you want about the T-Rex love sequence which I’ll leave to your imagination if you’ve never had the pleasure of watching Orgasmbut still, you see provocative facial expressions more than anything else.

At the time of this writing, Orgasm not available for streamingbut I have recently seen him doing his rounds on Tubi before being removed from the platform. For now, you can watch Orgasm on-demand through Amazon Prime Video, Google Play Movies, Apple TV+a Fandango at Home.
