Former Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte, who was detained in The Hague for his war, who killed thousands, was elected mayor of his family, according to early, partial results.
Two of his most loyal assistants-aide-Assistant Christopher Bong and Ga and Ronald “Batto” by Della Rosa, a one-time police chief who is responsible for performing his war for drugs, was re-elected to the country’s Senate.
But the intermediate elections, where the entertaining hostility between the Duterte and Marcos dynasties prevail, also threw some unexpected results.
The fate of the daughter Duterte, Vice President Sarah Duterte, remains in balance when the count continues.
Sarah Duterte – which is allegedly running for the presidency in 2028 – is facing the prospect of a ban on politics when the jury consisting of the country’s Senate voted for impeachment.
This meant that the average terms – in which 18,000 places were disputed: from local officials to governors and senators – it became proxy -war between its supporters and one -time ally, President Ferdinand “Bongbon” Markas -Young.
Candidates who support or dynasty went to the head, and the Duterte camp is looking for nine votes of the Senate to avoid impeachment.
But the unofficial count of 68% of the vote suggests what is unclear what way has gone.
It seems that the approval of the Marcos – the younger did not work, as predicted by surveys – only one of his candidates, television presenter Erwin Tulf, entered the top five in an unofficial count.
The remaining of the top five consisted of two Duterte’s assistants and two independent, while the dense race for the rest of the winning circle 12.
Instead, the place seems to have gone to independent.
Meanwhile, the vice president remains broad popular despite its political troubles, and the president will leave the post in 2028.
The results still show that Duterte has managed to maintain its base in the south two months after the 80-year-old populist leader was arrested at the Manila airport and went to the Netherlands on the same day to face an international criminal court.
It was his arrest – approved by Marcos – Jellor – who pushed rivalry between his daughter and the current president to boil, a few weeks after the President’s allies in the House of Representatives voted for the vice -president of impeachment of Duterte.
The senior Duterter is expected to win as a mayor, given that the family has been in office since the mid-1980s.
Duterte himself led Davao, spreading the southern metropolis, two decades before he was elected president in 2016. There he demonstrated his war with the drug he attributed for the success of the city, and won the support of millions far beyond his borders.
His youngest son, Sebastian, acting mayor, was elected deputy, that is, he can fulfill his father’s duties in his absence. Another son of Duterte, Paolo, was re -elected as a congressman. His grandchildren won local positions.
The name Duterte remained in the newsletter because he was not convicted of the crime. He won in a scam of a smaller opposition political family.
Maintaining a political base in Davao in the south is crucial for Dutertz – this is where they receive the greatest voter support.
However, the elections were not only the battle between the two families.
Voting on Monday was long queues at 33C (91F) and sporadic reports of violence and voting machines.
Like in the last elections, songs and dances, show companies played on stage and social media, emphasizing the identity and policy of the country’s celebrities, which sometimes obscure more pressing problems such as corruption, high cost of life and creaking infrastructure.
