Drone footage shows a fire at one of the world’s largest battery factories

A fire broke out at a Californian power plant that houses one of the world’s largest energy storage facilities.

The fire started in a building that housed lithium-ion batteries Thursday afternoon, a spokesman for the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office said.

The Moss Landing power plant, operated by Vistra Corp, was evacuated, as were people in the surrounding area. No casualties have been reported.

Officials are not actively fighting the fire, a Monterey sheriff’s spokesman said, and are instead leaving the building and batteries to burn at the recommendation of fire experts.
