A man from South Carolina, convicted for killed by the father of the former girl, became the first prisoner in the United States, who was shot, shooting the squad over the last 15 years.
Brad Sigmon was shot dead immediately after 6:00 pm local time (23:00 GMT) on Friday, three volunteers who fired a rifle in the chest with specially designed bullets.
67-year-old Sigmon was convicted of killing David and Gladz from a baseball bat in 2001 before stealing her ex-girl in a sight. When he fired at her, she managed to escape.
Sigmon demanded death, shooting from the other two other state methods: an electric chair and a deadly injection.
Christie Shane, from the South Carolina’s execution department, said Sigmon was recognized by the doctor dead at 18:08 local time.
According to her death, three Lark family members were present.
Before being killed, Sigmon said, “I want my final statement to be love and forgiveness.”
He quotes the Bible to expose the death penalty and said, “We no longer live by the Law of the Old Testament, but now we live under the New Testament.”
Witnesses said Sigmon was tied to the chair on which there was a pool to catch blood.
At 18:01 a curtain opened, which hid three volunteers. At 18:05 the trio released from 15 feet (4.6 m) without a count.
At a press conference Jeffrey Collins, reporter of the Associated Press, said Sigmon had a target Red Bullseye, located above his heart.
After reading his final statement, a hood was placed on his head.
When he was shot, his chest rose and fell several times, the reporter added.
The doctor held an exam, which took about 90 seconds before announceing it dead.
Anna Dobbins, Reporter WHF-TV, added that Sigmon wore a black leap, but bare hands that were “flexed” when he was shot.
“I saw a splash of blood when the bullets entered his body,” she said.
She said all the shots were released at the same time and that the witnesses could not see the weapons.
The prison guards also offered witnesses of the ear plugs to protect the ears from the sound of the shots, added the reporter for the Post and Courier newspaper.
Sigmon’s lawyer, because King, hoped for the last minute of the South Carolina governor and accused the deadly information.
King said his client suffered from mental illness, and that the friendly relationship he created in prison is the proof he rehabilitated.
“Brad is the one who, for the last food, asked to get three buckets of the coat of fried chicken Kentucky so he could share with the guys he was in custody in Death Row,” he said WYFF-TV earlier on Friday.
“With his last meal, he wanted to share something special with them,” he said.
Since 1977, only three people were killed in firing, and all three were in Utah. The latest case was Ronnie Le Gardner in 2010.
On the eve of Sigmon’s execution, protests against death held a rally outside prison in Colombia.
They kept the signs that say that “all life is valuable” and “you don’t kill”.
Used bullets are designed to break and maximum damage. Medical experts discussed the amount of pain they can cause.
The state allows witnesses to observe the death of the bulletproof glass, but the cats hide from the look to protect their identity.
South Carolina passed the law in 2023, demanding that the members of the execution team remain secret.
