Bruno, a seven-year-old bloody, was recognized as a hero for finding nine missing for his career, and was once honored by Italian Prime Minister.
Georgia Meloni condemned “sneaky, cowardly, unacceptable” murder in the message on X. “Thank you for all you did,” she said.
The dog coach, Arkangela Lass, said he knew who was responsible and promised to make them pay for their actions.
It is assumed that the murder was carried out as a revenge for the role of Bruno – a dismantling of dog fighting.
“Today I died with you,” Mr. Lasho said in a Facebook message, announcing Bruno’s death.
He said he found a dog – which, he said, saw “brother” – on Friday morning in his kennel at the search and rescue training center in Taranto, Apulia.
“You have fought all your life to save people, and now it was done by a man,” he added. “You were, you and you will continue to be my hero.”
The coach said the police and the Italian prosecutor’s office had launched a joint investigation into the murder.
Addressing the guilty, Mr. Lashia said, “I know who you are and you will pay for it.”
He said local media had been threatened by death within weeks that led to Bruno’s death.
“It was not a random gesture. They want me to retreat. But I will never infer. It’s a vicious attack made for money and revenge,” he said Corriere della Sera.
The Italian deputy and human rights activist Michel Viteria Brambila urged the police to be responsible for justice.
She suggested that Bruno was aimed at the criminals from his role in the delight of the dogs used in the fight.
A newly strengthened law headed by Brambila can punish those who kill the animal, using torture up to four years in prison and a fine of 60,000 euros (£ 51,000).
Brambila urged to apply this law because of “long and excruciating death” Bruno from internal bleeding caused by nail sausages.
“We owe this noble animal,” she said in a statement.
