Former Indian national cricket team player Navjot Singh Sidhu was disappointed with Rohit Sharma’s omission from playing XI in the ongoing test match against Australian national cricket team . He said it was a mistake and saw this happening for the first time in the history of Indian cricket.
In what was a massive moment, Indian national cricket team skipper Rohit Sharma was left out of the playing eleven for the ongoing Sydney Test. The opening batsman was replaced by Shubman Gill, who was dropped from the eleven for the last match at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in Melbourne.
It was learned and even skipper Jasprit Bumrah mentioned that Rohit Sharma was rested for the team. All this comes after the Indian national cricket team skipper failed to get going with the bat in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, both in the middle order and the opening.
This decision surprised many as the non-playing captain invited much debate. In his absence, Jasprit Bumrah leads the team, but the batting woes at the top continued as the top order failed to get going, and the Indian national cricket team lost wickets early and was under massive pressure.
Navjot Singh Sidhu said dropping Rohit Sharma was a strange decision. He stressed that if he was to be dropped, he should not have been made captain at all. He added that the sitting pattern sends the wrong message. On his Twitter account, he explained:
“It is strange, it is strange, simply because this has happened for the first time in the history of Indian cricket, that a captain is sitting out. Or you should not have captained, but if he is captain, and a great player who has fact.lot of service to Indian cricket then whether his form is bad or not it doesn’t matter.
“The captain doesn’t have an option to opt out for the good of the team. He’s sending the wrong signals. So I think whether you’ve sat him out or given him an option, the management can’t give the option to a captain of And this captain, who has made the team, who has instilled faith, who has played the role of a father figure, has earned respect.”
Navjot Singh Sidhu added that the team captain never abandons the ship. While calling Rohit Sharma a respectable person, he said it was a very wrong call. He elaborated:
“I think a captain never detaches himself from his ship, even if it is a sinking ship. And this is a very honorable and respectable person. Bhai, it is a wrong decision.”
Navjot Singh Sidhu shared the video with the caption, saying that he has seen greats of the game, who were captains, play despite failing for years. He emphasized that Rohit Sharma deserved more respect from the team management. He said:
“A captain should never be dropped mid-stream or given the option to opt out… it sends wrong signals… I have seen captains like Mark Taylor, Azharuddin etc persist as to captain for a year despite the poor form.and the faith of the management.. Strange because it happened for the first time in the history of Indian cricket.. Because a fallen beacon is more more dangerous than a reef!”
