Former Indian batsman Dinesh Karthik has named Australia’s star skipper and skipper Pat Cummins as the best captain in the world at the moment, glossing over Rohit Sharma’s achievements as India captain.
Rohit led India to a historic T20 World Cup win in June 2024, while Cummins’ leadership has been extraordinary. Since taking over as Australia captain in 2021, Pat Cummins led Australia to the ICC Test World Championship and ODI World Cup titles in 2023.
In addition to his accolades, Cummins also captained Australia to their first Test series win over India in a decade. The Australian cricket team cruised to a 3-1 victory in the recent Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 despite a rough start with a massive 295-run loss in the first Test to clinch the prestigious trophy after more than a decade .
And Cummins led Australia from the front in the five-match Test series, taking 25 wickets and scoring 159 runs against India. Dinesh Karthik recently hailed Pat Cummins as the most aggressive cricketer in the world, not through words or actions, but through his confident body language and composure.

Highlighting Cummins’ leadership qualities, Karthik was in awe of how the Australian captain handles the media and handles pre-match and post-match situations. The former Indian wicketkeeper said that Cummins had this aura and quality of leadership in his blood, and with the way he conducted himself on and off the field, he deserves applause and respect.
Former Indian cricketer-turned-commentator Karthik pointed out that Cummins shows how the perfect leader should be, and is currently the best captain in international cricket, saying that he has the ability to lead a group of men.
Dinesh Karthik said on the latest episode of HeyCB with DK on Cricbuzz: “I think Pat Cummins is the most aggressive cricketer on the planet right now. And he doesn’t do it by talking or abusing. He does it with his body language, the the way he handles the media, after the games and before the games. He has the ability to lead a group of men and for me he is the number one captain in the world right now.”
However, Cummins is likely to miss the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025, which starts on February 19 in Pakistan. The Australian pacer is scheduled to undergo scans on his sore ankle, the results of which will decide whether he can take part in the eight-nation tournament. Notably, the Champions Trophy returns after a seven-year hiatus.

Earlier, Dinesh Karthik defended Rohit Sharma for his unexpected interview during the Sydney Test, despite not being part of the playing eleven against Australia. The cricket expert believes the interview was meant to calm the audience and counter media reports suggesting a rift in the Indian dressing room.
Karthik had claimed, “Knowing Sharma, I think he gave this interview because there was a lot of news going around.”
