Diane Keaton has been fascinated spectators since the 1970s — and it shows no signs of stopping.
Following his theatrical debut in the original 1968 production from Broadway HairKeaton turned to film. His first role was in the 1970s Lovers and Other Strangerstwo years before she got her big break Francis Ford Coppola‘s The Godfather.
“I always thought I was the strangest, strangest person in the film, and ‘Why was I cast in it?’ and I had no voice,” Keaton said of her character, Kay Adams, in celebration the 45th anniversary of the original film at the 2017 Tribeca Film Festival. “But then I had a couple of good scenes with them Al (Pacino).”
At the time, the Oscar winner admitted she hadn’t seen the iconic mafia film for nearly three decades. “I saw it on my computer. I hadn’t seen him for about 30 years,” he said. “And … I just remember all the people, I couldn’t handle it, it was so stunning, it was so beautiful, and everyone is so great in it, and the music, and every choice (Coppola) made .”
Keaton it continued to appear in the franchise’s 1974 sequel and 1990 sequel. While its dramatic twists are award-worthy, fans also love the Then Again the author’s comedic timing in Annie Hall, Father of the Bride, The Family Stone and more.
“Diane, of course, she was kind of our leader on the film,” Family Stone costar Luke Wilson only say Us Weekly in December 2021. “She would never say that but everyone admired her so much.”
