Dhoni’s return as CSK captain ends in the defeat against KKR

Posted on: April 12, 2025

The long -awaited return of Ms. Dhoni as captain of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) ended with a disappointing note, as his side ruined his total IPL at home. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) did a slight work of a modest goal of 104 run, achieving victory in just 10.1 and handed CSK a humbilde defeat to Chepuk Stadium.

With hopeful fans with a resurgence directed by Dhoni, the reality was far from the fairy tale. Batting first, CSK managed only 103/9 in its 20 pointsA shocking shock marked by a bad selection of shot, a strong bowling and an alarming lack of application from the higher order. The crowd saw dazed quiet as Dhoni, walking unusually at number 9, was dismissed by a lonely career.

Sunil Narine led the load with the ball by KKR, reaching 3 by 15 at its four points. Varun Chakravarthy and Harshit Rana collided with two doctors, as CSK Batters struggled to read the variations and the rhythm of the ball. Only Ravindra Jadja showed some resistance with a 2 of 28 balls.

KKR made the persecution seemed effortless Phil Salt and Sunil Narine throwing a brutal assault on Powerplay. The duo added 71 runs in only 5.4 points, effectively sealing the game ahead of time. Narine broke 42 of 18 deliveries, while the salt remained uninitive in 38, as KKR crossed to 106/2 in 10.1.

The dominant victory increases Kolkata Knight’s riders to third at the IPL 2025 point table, reaffirming their playoff credentials. However, for CSK, the loss is thrown into the ninth, with serious questions about their shape and strategy.

Although Dhoni’s return to leadership brought Hope and nostalgia to CSK fans, team performance suggests a deeper need for restructuring and clarity. If it was a day off or a sign of bigger problems in the camp.

One thing is clear: if CSK has to bounce again, it will need much more than a change in the captaincy.
