Devin Haney’s Cryptic Message: Stuck in 2025? Who are you talking about?

Devin Haney posted a cryptic message on social media tonight, saying he hopes 2025 will help.

He’s not saying who would knock him out, but he may be talking about Ryan Garcia because his promoter, Oscar De La Hoya, said a match with Devin wouldn’t happen in his first fight after his one-year suspension expires in April .

Devin and his father, Bill Haney, want the rematch with Kingry to avenge their loss last April. It’s also one of Haney’s (31-0, 15 KOs) highest-paid fights in 2025. However, if he loses the rematch with Garcia, his career is over. He would regret fighting for the rest of his life.

Dev needs to defeat Garcia to prove to fans that his 12-round majority decision loss to Garcia on April 20 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn was just an off night. Haney was down three times in that fight and three more times the referee didn’t count.

Andrade criticizes Haney

“In the beginning, I thought about Devin Haney for a long time because I thought he was going to become a Sugar Ray Leonard-style guy, but recently it hasn’t been that way,” Demetrius Andrade said in MillCity Boxing about him I initially believed that Devin Haney would be the guy to beat Gervonta Davis.

“I don’t know if he (Haney) got too complacent or not. He’s still young because they make good money and then they stop working. I’m not saying he doesn’t work hard. I thought he would be the guy to beat Tank in the future. He wins a lot of them guys, honestly.

“I think he has the skills to beat everybody, but that Ryan Garcia thing. Regardless of the little substance he took, he didn’t show any ability to dominate against Ryan, and Ryan looked like crap at times. He was tired,” he said Andrade.

If Andrade was serious about Haney becoming the next Sugar Ray Leonard, it means he wasn’t around when he was fighting. Haney doesn’t fight anything like Leonard did. Even an older version of Sugar Ray in 1997 was above Devin’s talent.

“There were a lot of rounds in that fight where Devin should have pressed and pushed, and he didn’t,” Andrade said. “He just let it go on, and he was throwing Caleb Plant strikes at them. He wasn’t doing anything, and Ryan just went boop-boop. It was tough,” Andrade said of Haney’s loss to Garcia.

Haney was trying to neutralize Ryan’s left hook by over-hooking, but he kept getting pinned as he looked to catch it. He had gotten away with fighting this way in both of his fights against George Kambosos Jr. and his confrontation against Vasily Lomachenkp. That tactic didn’t work against Garcia.
