Devin Haney says he was as surprised as everyone else, which was in the ninth round of the Gervonta ‘Tank’ struggle against Lamont Roach on Saturday night at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
Haney said he had never seen anything as before when the light champion of the WBA, Tanc Davis (30-0-1, 28 kos), put a knee in the ninth. Referee Steve Willis chose not to score it as a defeat. He even let Tank back to his corner to make his eyes trailer.
Non Knockdown escaped Tank with a tie of most 12 rounds. So the WBA champion remained, and Roach left nothing to show his performance.
“I always knew that Lamont did not come to put. I know Lamont since we were children. So we left for the fans together,” said Devin Haney Ring MagazineReflecting on the struggle of Gervonta Davis vs. Lamont Roach since last Saturday night.
“ I knew Lamont was serious and came there to fight, but I thought it was much better than I thought I did. I thought he won the fight. The one was not eliminated, this was not known. This is the first time I have seen with my own two eyes, ” said Herey about the Davis tank that a knee was made on the ninth and the referee did not call it.
Many people believe that if Lamont Roach had taken a knee and then returned to his corner, the referee would have counted it as a defeat and then stirred the fight. It is not a superstar like Tank Davis, so it would not be given the special treatment of the stars.
The referee began to count eight years, but then stopped for some reason. It was strange. Roach feels that he must have been eliminated, which would have given him the victory. Since then he has appealed to the Athletic Commission of the New York State, hoping that he will change the result to give him the victory. Surprisingly, it takes a long time to decide.
