Detroit Lions cornerback Khalil Dorsey was carried off the field on Sunday, December 15, after suffering a horrific ankle injury.
Dorsey, 26, conflict with a teammate Ezekiel Turner during the second quarter of the team’s game against the Buffalo Bills at Ford Field in Detroit.
Following the injury, Dorsey’s teammates took a knee and surrounded him on the field. Head coach of the Lions Dan Campbell he also made his way to Dorsey to check on his injured player.
After being placed in an air cast, Dorsey was carried off the field on a cart in obvious distress.
According to a CBS sideline reporter Tracy WolfsonDorsey had been taken to a local hospital.
Dorsey had been inserted into the game after an injury to the Lions starting cornerback Carlton Davies III.
The Lions were able to immediately rule Davis out of the game with an ankle injury.
The graphic nature of Dorsey’s injury, which appeared on the CBS broadcast, drew immediate reaction from viewers on social media.
“The Lions hit with another injury,” wrote one person via X. “I feel so bad for these players personally, and as a team I don’t know if I’ve seen a squad so devastated by injuries. Praying for a safe and healthy recovery for Khalil Dorsey.”
Another wrote, “Man, prayers up for Lions #30 Khalil Dorsey…that’s horrible. Hate to see that happen.”
Some fans also criticized the Bills wide receiver Mack Hollinswho seemed to be pointing at Dorsey and mocking him while he was on the ground.
“The Bills used to be my second favorite team but after watching Mack Hollins taunt a guy who tore his leg in half I can’t wait to watch them go out in the first round of the playoffs,” wrote one person through X. “Karma always finds a way to catch up with such people.”
Another wrote, “If Mack Hollins was really laughing at Khalil Dorsey’s injury and mocking him, he deserves whatever consequences he gets for it. That should never be tolerated, especially with what this team went through in 2023.”
The social media user was referring to the security of Bills Damar Hamlinwho suffered cardiac arrest during a game in January 2023. Hamlin, 26, would eventually return to action at the start of the 2024-’25 season.
In 2023, Dorsey revealed that he had been diagnosed Rhabdomyolysis, a medical condition affecting the kidneys.
“Definitely mess with your mind mentally, just because you want to go 100 percent all the time,” Dorsey told reporters at the time. “But, it’s like, in the back of my mind, if I go 100 percent all the time, all these plays, is it going to affect me? But, I’m going to do it.”
