Details have emerged for death Miller Gardner14 -year -old son before the star of New York Yankees Brett Gardner.
Miller died on Friday, March 21, while the family was on holiday at a destination in Costa Rica, according to a report Monday, March 24 by Edition inside. The news was reportedly confirmed by the US Costa Rica Embassy.
News of Miller’s death was Published in a statement by Brett, 41, and his wife, Jessica. Released by the Yankees on Sunday, March 23.
“With heavy hearts we are sad to announce the passing of our youngest son, Miller,” read the statement. “He was 14 and has left us far too soon after becoming ill along with several other family members while on holiday. We have so many questions and so many answers at this point, but we know he died peacefully in his sleep on Friday morning, March 21st.”
Off the field, former New York Yankees external player Brett Gardner is a family man. The statement continued, “Miller was a dear son and brother and we could not yet understand our life without his infectious smile. He loved football, baseball, golf, hunting, fishing, family and friends. He lived life to the full every day.”
Brett played all 14 seasons from his MLB career with the Yankees before retiring at the end of the 2021 season.
He and Jessica – who married in 2007 – share an older son, Hunter.
No cause of death was announced to Miller.
The Yankees Foundation also released their own statement on Sunday after Miller’s death was revealed, which read in part, “Our love of the Gardner family is unconditional and absolute, and we will offer our continued support in understanding their desire for privacy at this time. Miller rests in peace.”
General Manager Yankees Aaron Boone tackled Miller’s death with reporters At the team’s spring training facilities at Tampa, Florida, on Sunday.
“We’re talking about being a family all the time, and while Brett has gone for a few years, that doesn’t stop,” said Boone, 52, per New York Post. “Many people (the club) know that family closely. It’s a very difficult day and very difficult news.”
Boone added, “To the best we can, we will pray for the Gardner family and where we can, offering support. That’s a kind of unimaginable that unfortunately that’s where we are with him. Very difficult.”
Brett’s last four seasons came with the Yankees with Boone as the team manager, who took over duties in 2018.
New York Mets Manager Carlos Mendoza He also went to Miller’s death during his media availability on Sunday.
“I would like to start by sending my thoughts and prayers to Jessica and Brett Gardner on the loss of his son,” Mendoza, 45, told reporters. “Obviously I had a very good relationship with him. I think about it and the whole organization of Mets is thinking about Gardner’s family.”
Mendoza and Brett, 41, played together at the Yankees Small League Foundation between 2006 and 2007, and Mendoza Brett later ruled in Mendoza’s time as a bench coach for the Yankees. Mendoza was employed as Mets manager in November 2023.
“I also got two boys, and they were pretty close,” added Mendoza.
