The statement continued, “Miller was a dear son and brother and we could not yet understand our life without his infectious smile. He loved football, baseball, golf, hunting, fishing, family and friends. He lived life to the full every day.”

Brett played all 14 seasons from his MLB career with the Yankees before retiring at the end of the 2021 season.

He and Jessica – who married in 2007 – share an older son, Hunter.

No cause of death was announced to Miller.

The Yankees Foundation also released their own statement on Sunday after Miller’s death was revealed, which read in part, “Our love of the Gardner family is unconditional and absolute, and we will offer our continued support in understanding their desire for privacy at this time. Miller rests in peace.”

General Manager Yankees Aaron Boone tackled Miller’s death with reporters At the team’s spring training facilities at Tampa, Florida, on Sunday.

“I would like to start by sending my thoughts and prayers to Jessica and Brett Gardner on the loss of his son,” Mendoza, 45, told reporters. “Obviously I had a very good relationship with him. I think about it and the whole organization of Mets is thinking about Gardner’s family.”

Mendoza and Brett, 41, played together at the Yankees Small League Foundation between 2006 and 2007, and Mendoza Brett later ruled in Mendoza’s time as a bench coach for the Yankees. Mendoza was employed as Mets manager in November 2023.
