Derek Jeter Graduate College 33 years later at Michigan University

Derek Jeter Officially graduated at college – over 30 years after he started taking first classes.

The former New York Yankee announced the news by Instagram On Sunday, May 4, where he shared a series of pictures of his graduation ceremony at the University of Michigan.

“I took longer than I had planned since registering at Fall Michigan of ’92 to make it to graduate!” Jeter’s header. “Thanks @uofmichigan for the doctoral degree in honorary laws and invite me to give the start speech. Congratulations to the 2025 class. Go blue!”

The pictures show Jeter wearing cap and gown and puzzles for extra hips with his family, including his wife Hannah Jeter, as well as her sister Sharse and his parents, Sanderson and Dorothy Jeter.

People who have made important contributions to the public are often awarded a doctoral degree in Honorary Acts. Honorees are not required to take classes or enroll in the ruling school.

Along with his honorary degree, Jeter was also the starting speaker for Class 2025 during their graduation ceremony on Saturday, May 3, at Michigan Stadium at Ann Arbor. The mliveJeter told the crowd of graduates, “Passion. Passion for what you do. Passion for who you are. Ball -fas was my passion from the time I was little. Find you.”

His speech continued, “Fall in love with something – anything. Because when you do, you work harder to achieve it. It will drive you. You have to feel that dream in every muscle, every bone in your body because with every dream, every dream you have, you will have to sacrifice your comfort, sacrifice your ease.”

Jeter was born in Pequannock, New Jersey, but grew up in Kalamazoo, Michigan. He was drafted by the New York Yankees as the General Choice No. 6 of the High School in 1992 and made his first appearance in the league in 1995. At the time, the Yankees were surprised that Jeter was still available as choosing No. 6.

“Derek Jeter was the best athlete available when we had a chance to choose,” the Yankees he said in a statement. “We feel that it will become a short side stride in the main leagues.” Before being drafted to the New York team, Jeter had planned to play baseball for Michigan.

Jeter has been quite quiet late. In April 2024, his former team Alex Rodriguez reveal that the pair have patched their relationships that are sometimes full.
