Hundreds of thousands of pro -democratic demonstrators returned to Istanbul Street, Turkey, in support of the town.
Last week, Erem Imomoglu, which is regarded as the main political competitor of the Turkish president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan was arrested on charges of corruption, which caused mass protests.
He denies the allegations and claims that his arrest is politically motivated. Imomoglu is currently being held in solitary confinement in a high security prison on the outskirts of Istanbul.
The Saturday crowds were so great that they had outlined the protest in the neighboring park. The chairman of the Republican Party Imomoglu (CHP) addressed the demonstrators by reading a letter from a politician in prison.
“I’m not afraid you are behind me and next to mine. He was accompanied by AI-Zgenerated Imomoglu video that read his letter from prison.
Imomoglu’s wife, Dilek, also protested and said the crowd: “We will continue to fight and fight.”
Gathering under the cloudless blue sky, the participants of the rally waved the red and white flag of Turkey and chanted: “Rights, law, justice!”
Imomoglu held the post of Mayor Istanbul since 2019 and won the Great Victory in Mary’s election last year.
It is widely regarded as the only Turkish politician, able to challenge Erdogan and his justice and development party – also known as the voting ballot box.
A number of huge protests about democracy have won the country after the arrest of Imomoglu earlier this month.
They also caused concern that hey would not face free and fair trial if his case is being considered in court.
The government denied the arrest of Imomoglu, which was politically motivated and insists that the Turkish courts are completely independent.
Erdogan said the protests are “street terrorism”accusing the demonstrators of attacking the police and the damage to state property.
In some cases, the civilian police tried to disperse these protests with the help of tear and rubber bullets.
