Postal carriers across Europe plan to suspend some supplies to the US if countries are preparing for the end of a long -standing trade rule.
Some deliveries from Germany, Spain, France, Belgium, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Norway and Switzerland should be stopped in the coming days and weeks after the president Donald Trump signed an executive order ending the centennial Release “De Minimis”.
The trade policy, which is sometimes called the “slit”, allowed to deliver supplies worth up to $ 800 to enter the US with virtually no official duties. Practice should end for imports from all over the world after Trump’s executive order.
The release of De Minimis for goods coming from China and Hong Kong, which have long made up the bulk of these supplies ended in May.
The suspension will affect the deliveries of up to $ 800, and greatly exclude gifts and letters. Most countries said they should suspend supplies because their systems have not been built for new requirements, and they are not sure how to properly process deliveries according to new rules.
In a statement on Friday, the German international shipping company DHL said Deutsche Post and DHL parcel Germany will no longer be able to accept and transport parcels intended for the US. In the future, “The key issues remain unresolved, especially in relation to how customs duties will be collected in the future, what additional data will be needed and how the data transfer in the US and the US and party protection.
Customers will still be able to send goods via DHL Express, which is more expensive.
National post offices in Spain, France and Belgium have made similar messages.
In the news release, Spain’s national post office said that he learned about the detailed requirements necessary to fulfill the executive order on August 15 and did not have enough time to change his systems.
“This situation forces Correos, as well as all postal operators that control the US-intended supplies to change its processes and increase the shipment control for the implementation of new customs requirements, which greatly affected international postal logistics and e-commerce streams,” Kreres said on Monday.
It states that it is working to restore “as soon as possible” supplies.
The post office of Belgium said she had suspended deliveries starting Saturday, while France La Poste said deliveries would be suspended on Monday.
Meanwhile, the post office of Finland Posti stopped accepting the US -related goods on Saturday, but later added that he could no longer accept gifts or letters because “several airlines refused to transport any postal items in the US.”
Said carriers They expect the suspension to be temporary. The pauses may be detained by some deliveries, but most international trade is not expected.
Larger retailers, both domestic and international, do not seek to use the minimum release, which they often have to deliver their goods to the US staff and pay tariffs for goods. Two major exceptions are Temu and Shein, which promoted the use of De Minimis and relied on it for the main part of the US consumers. Ever since the de -minimis ended the goods sent from China, Demand has fallen for Shane and the topic as Prices have risen.
It is expected that the reserves will affect smaller orders of Americans who directly buy from a smaller European business.
