Dawn Stley, a Famer Hall and the current coach of the Carolina Women’s Basketball Team in South Carolina, said he had a formal interview with the New York Knicks for the Franchise coach’s vacancy before the organization hired Mike Brown.
“I interviewed the Knicks. I did it” Staley said during a recent appearance at Podcast Post Moves Hosted by Aliyah Boston of the Indiana Fever and ex -Basketball Great Candace Parker. “It was the same interview as everyone else (had) who were in their group of candidates. The same.”
Staley, who has won three national championships as main coach of South Carolina, discussed how this conversation went with the main basketball team in New York.
“It was like hours. But in the interview, I thought it did quite well,” he said. “I was well prepared for the interview.”
Staley even said that he would have accepted the position if an offer had been expanded by the team.
“If the Knicks had offered me the job, I would have to do it,” he said. “Not only for me. It is for women. Just to open -I have to do
Although Staley described how he would not take on any NBA job, there would have been immense pressure as the first female coach in the history of the league. It would also have been under constant scrutiny working on the largest media in the United States.
“The NBA must be ready for a main coach,” he elaborated. “You can’t interview someone and say:” We will hire her. “”
Interestingly, Staley stated that “he probably lost his job” after asking questions about the franchise and preparation for the league for a main coach.
“I think I probably lost my job by doing this question …” How, if you contract as a first female coach in the NBA, would you affect your daily work? “Because I would.” There will be the media. There will be all these things that you have to face with which you do not have to treat, and you do not have to face when you hire a male. And that made them think. And then, I felt the change of energy after that. “
Staley is a kidding to ask many questions.
“So I fired on the foot to be curious,” he concluded. “Ask all these questions.”
