David Morrell says he should have used his “foot work” and “head movement” more efficiently in his loss against David Benavidez last February at the T-Mobile Arena. Former world champion of two Morrell divisions (11-1, 9 kos) made the mistake of waiting too long before continuing the attack on Benavidez in its slight heavy weight contest.
When Cuban dumped him in the afternoon, he left Benavidez on the eleventh, illuminating it with great shots on the 12th. When the fight ended, “The Mexican Monster” looked to be struck Around his face and he exhausted the hard shots that Morrell had hit him in the last two rounds. At the end of the struggle, Benavidez’s facial features resembled a 100 -year -old man.
When you look at what Morrell did in Benavidez in these two rounds and extrapolating that about what he could have done, the fight would have ended quickly if he had fought more aggressively.
The struggle was an example of Morrell who did not know his strength and did not use his natural power and the advantage of youth against Benavidez to try to remove him in the first half.
After learning from this struggle, Morrell, 27 Imam Khataev (10-0 (9 kos) On July 12 at the Louis Armstrong Stadium in Queens, New York. Morrell-Khataev will fight at the subcardine of the Edgar Berlanga event VS. Hamzah Sheeraz.
In order to avoid losing another struggle for not using his power game, Morrell must attack Khataev all, and not wrap and wait too long as he did against Benavidez. Morrell also made the same mistake fighting passively in his clash against Radivoje Kalajdzic Last August at the Turki Alralikh card at Los Angeles BMO Stadium.
When Morrell attacked Kalajdzic aggressively with combinations, he injured him and stopped. But then he re -launched simple features, unnecessarily dancing, allowing Kalajdzic to have successful moments and travel the distance of 12 rounds.
In the posterior view, Morrell should have followed the Artur Beeterbiev Blueprint When attacking Kalajdzic in a complete style, launching combinations non-stop, burying it with pressure and keeping a fast pace. This same approach would also have worked for Morrell against Benavidez. Morrell must use the Beterbiev style for all his fights advancing, because he will work for him at 175 to defeat combatants such as Dmitry Bivol, Benavidez and Artur. Morrell never overcome the fighters like Bivol and Benavidez, trying to fight how he did last February against the “Mexican monster”. This is a waste of time.
However, unlike Morrell’s previous headline against Benavidez, his fight with Khataev will be buried in four deeply in the subdate the bottom of the rock of the card. This must be a hard pill for Morrell to swallow, because if he had fought against the right fight against Benavidez attacking -the teeth and nails, Cuban style, he would probably have demolished it. He then headed his card in a resale with Benavidez or against one of the best contenders. Life would be different.
Undercard blues
“Every time you suffer a defeat, there is something you look back and you think it could have changed,” said David Morrell to Boxing SwanReflecting on his defeat against David Benavidez last February. “I feel like I could have used my job better and possibly more movement of the head.
“I know he brings a strong punch. I will win and win with the authority,” Morrell said about his fight against Imam Khataev On July 12 in his dirt struggle in Queens, New York. “I hope to fight at least twice more before the end of the year.”
