Daniel Sams was stretchered off after a collision with Cameron Bancroft

The incident happened in the first innings of the match when the Perth Scorchers were batting. On the second ball of 16, Ferguson bowled a leg delivery to Connolly, who bowled it over square leg.

Watching the ball rise into the air, Sydney Thunder players Daniel Sams and Cameron Bancroft ran in to take the catch. The two players were watching the ball and because of that, they ended up bumping into each other.

It was an absolutely horrific collision as Sams and Bancroft were unable to get up after the incident as they hit each other in the face.

Bancroft immediately clutched his face and was left bleeding as Sams lay on the floor. Medical staff rushed to the pitch after the collision to check on the players and after some time, Bancroft with a bloody nose was allowed off the pitch with the physio.

However, things looked very serious for Sams as he was unable to get up and was dragged off the field.

Speaking on air, Mel Jones was stunned as he spoke about the incident that unfolded on the ground. She said as quoted by Fox Cricket:

“There’s been a horrible collision. There’s concern here. Both players fully committed to the ball, their eyes on it. They didn’t see it coming. That’s what you don’t want to see.

“The main concern is around Daniel Sams. It’s Cam Bancroft standing up walking off the floor. It looks like he’s been hurt in the nose. So much courage – they both had their eyes on the ball. It’s the last thing you want to see in any form of sport. It’s going to take some time for the players to recover and get back into things as well.”

Also, immediately after the incident it was confirmed that the duo would not be able to participate in the match. All the players, fans, support staff and broadcasters present at the ground were shaken by the incident, and play resumed after a long delay.

“Both conscious and talking” – Massive update on Daniel Sams and Cameron Bancroft

Before the second innings, it was officially announced that Daniel Sams and Bancroft have been replaced by concussion substitutes Ollie Davies and Hugh Weibgen.

Also, an on-air commentator offered a colossal update on the duo, saying that Daniel Sams and Cameron Bancroft are conscious and talking. “Both are conscious and talking,” the on-air commentator said.

Meanwhile, commentator Steve O’Keefe felt the massive Perth crowd played a part in the horrific collision between Sams and Bancroft as the players were unable to hear each other’s call.

“It’s going to be very difficult to start again. These big stadiums, you don’t just hear, shouting at a player off the ball and something like that happens. Totally accidental, but it’s horrible to watch. You can only hope they come out of it with minor injuries. As a side, it’s really difficult to regroup now,” he said, quoted by Fox Cricket.
