D-Day hero gets posthumous after 81 years

81th anniversary of the famous US under the guidance D-day invading Normandy, France, was recently noted.
Less known fights in the days and weeks that followed in Normandy, which helped to consolidate the massive beach so that the allies can continue and defeat Nazi Germany in the world II.
One of these collisions was on the bridge above a small river near the city of St. Mere-Egley. The paratroopers from the 82nd Airborne Division landed near the morning of June 6, 1944.
They had to engage in a position against the Germans who threaten US forces who went ashore on Utah’s beach, one of the main landing places.

One of them was a 31-year-old US army officer in Iowa. William Owns. For three days, when his unit was cut down in the battle from 45 to only 12 people, he courageously helped fight the Germans.
He shot from three different machine guns, threw hand grenades, commanded the Bazuki teams and moved from the fox into excess, coordinating the actions. The actions of him and his people eventually knocked out four German tanks, killed 275 German soldiers and stopped the Nazis dead in their footsteps. Historians were recognized as key battles for Normandy.

Owns died at the age of 54 in 1967. His youngest daughter, raised by British Susan Mor, said, “I have no words to describe how full my heart is and how much it means to me.”
His great -grandson Harris Morales was also proud of being there, saying, “without a doubt, Owns was a brave guy. As for the new recognition of Owance, he added: “It means everything and I still don’t believe it. It’s still not real for me.”
