Lightweight prospect Curmel Moton will fight on the David Benavidez vs. David Morrell undercard on February 1st 40 days from now on PBC on Prime Video PPV at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
The 18-year-old Moton’s undefeated opponent and the rest of the card have yet to be announced. He probably won’t be a big name for Moton, as he’s still a teenager and his promoter is fine-tuning him very carefully.
It will be interesting to see what division the 5’4″ (6-0, 5 KOs) Moton will fight in this contest. He weighed in at 139 3/4 pounds for his last fight against Hilario Martinez Moreno on Oct. 12 in Philadelphia. The fact that Moton already has weight problems at 18 suggests that he will soon move up to welterweight and be fodder for the monsters in this division.
While Moton destroyed Moreno in the first round, his arrival at overweight near the 140-pound limit is a red flag that he could be forced to move up to light welterweight soon. At 5’4″, Moton is undersized for this division and will have trouble against taller fighters. He’s built like a fire hydrant with a square shape, and you can tell by looking at him that he’s going to be in trouble if he moves up to 140 or more.
Moton is one of Floyd Mayweather Jr’s protégés, and is expected to take him slowly like he did Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis, feeding him soft meals. to build a record to create a money generator.
If Moton follows the same script as Tank, he may never be a 50-50 fight until the end of his career when he’s 30 years old. Tank hasn’t been in a 50-50 yet, and he’s been in the pro game for 11 years. So what does that tell you about how Moton will fare? You’d think Moton wouldn’t behave like Tank, but he sure will.
