The federal judge constantly dismissed the criminal case against the Mayor of New York Eric Adams, a few weeks after the Trump administration instructed the prosecutor’s office to abandon corruption allegations.
The move led to the resignation of the Main Federal Prosecutor Manhattan, who accused Adams of dealing with the Trump administration of dismissing his case of compulsory execution.
The Judge in Manhattan rejected the case with prejudices, which means that the Ministry of Justice cannot resurrect allegations against Adams on the basis of the same evidence.
Adams was charged with conspiracy, fraud, address with illegal companies and bribery. He denied any violations.
In the charges of September last September, Adams allegedly accepted gifts totaling more than 100,000 dollars (75,000 pounds) from citizens in exchange for services.
In a decision on Wednesday, US County Judge Dale Ho said that the Ministry of Justice did not object to Adams’ motion seeking a constant dismissal.
Judge Ho said constantly rejecting the case because the permission of the Federal Prosecutor’s Office to revive the case in the future “to create an inevitable perception that the mayor’s freedom depends on the ability to fulfill the immigration and that it may be more attracted to the requirements of the federal government than to the wishes of its own components.”
In February, acting Deputy Prosecutor General Emil Bove, ordered the prosecutor of New York to abandon the case against Adams, arguing it by “restriction of the mayor to resolve” illegal immigration and a violent crime ” – the key purpose of the Trump administration.
But former chief prosecutor Manhattan Daniel Sasson refused to do so.
She claimed that in a letter to Bosa, Prosecutor General Bondi, that the mayor’s team offered “what composed the Quid Pro Quo”, saying that Adams would be able to help the administration’s policy “only if the charge was dismissed.”
Sasson and six other high -level officials resigned for dispute, saying there was no legal justification to reject Adams’ case.
After the ruling, Alex Spira, Prosecutor of Mayor Adams, said the case “had never been brought in the first place.” “From the 1st day, the mayor retained his innocence, and now justice for Eric Adams and New York prevailed.”
