Cricket Australia announces Test squad for 2024; two Indian players make the cut

It has been an exciting summer of Test cricket action Australiawith more to come as the climax of the current one Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 arrives in sydney in the midst of this Cricket Australia they have now named their Test squad for 2024 with considerable representation of cricketers from outside Australia.

Six Nations players named in Cricket Australia’s 2024 Team of the Year

Cricket Australia has produced cricketers from 6 cricket playing nations including England, new zealand, south africa, Sri Lanka, India and Australia. Interestingly, England get the most places with 3 English batsmen Ben Duckett, Joe Root i Harry Brook featured in Cricket Australia’s featured XI.

Sri Lanka and South Africa have an appearance each as a middle-order batsman Kamindu Mendis and sense of spin Keshav Maharaj of the two nations respectively. Wicket-keeper batsman Alex Carey and peace Josh Hazelwood they are the two Australians who have secured a place in the squad.

Two Indian stars feature in the Test XI

The two Indians featured in Cricket Australia’s playing XI are opening batsmen Yashasvi Jaiswal and peace jasprit bumrah. In addition, Bumrah has also been appointed as the captain of the team. The 31-year-old captained the Indian team in the first Test match of the ongoing 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Perth which India won by 295 runs.

Jaiswal was the highlight of the match, playing a knock of 161 runs in the second innings. Since that Test match, Australia have returned to the series by winning the day-night clash in Adelaide and the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne, but Jaiswal and Bumrah have consistently troubled the Aussies in the series.

Bumrah is the leading wicket-taker in the series with 30 wickets to his name and a best bowling figure of 6/76. Jaiswal, on the other hand, is the second highest scorer in the series behind Chief Travis. The youngster has scored a total of 359 runs in the series so far at a batting average of 51.28.
