Country wants tourism to be 10% GDP by 2030

Tourism can consist of 10% of the gross domestic product of Mongolia if the country can attract 2 million annual tourists by 2030, Tourism Minister in the country said on Wednesday.

“We have a great, ambitious goal that by 2030 is about 2 million tourists, which will be about $ 4 billion in our GDP,” said Namin Cynbat, Minister of Culture, Sport, Tourism and Youth.

The money of tourists is currently 3% -4% of Mongolia’s GDP, she said.

In 2024, the Asian country welcomed a record 808,000 foreigners, and interest continues to grow, especially among those who seek nature, adventure, culture and spiritual tourism, said Chinbat.

“The number of tourism is growing pretty quickly,” she said. “From year to year, growth was about 9%. We want to increase it to 16%.”

Coming from the US

The first flight of United Airlines in Mongolia landed on Thursday night, the Chinbat event called “Milestone” for the country’s tourist industry.

Mongolia wants tourism to be 10% GDP by 2030, the minister says

“We recently made a Mongolian tourism strategy from Boston Consulting Group, and one of the key aspects to improve our tourist industry is an international connection, and especially from North America.”

She said Mongolia hoped that three times a week, which is landed in Tokyo before heading to the Mongolian capital of the Ulaanbarator, there would be at least double the number of US visitors who led 22,000 people last year.

“The US is one of our sources, the market on which we work, and the fact that it is one airline, although it connects to Navit (airport), it will make it much more convenient for people who can fly to Mongolia.”

Most of the entrance travelers to Mongolia originally from the neighboring countries of China and Russia, as well as South Korea.

Investment in infrastructure

Mongolia needs to invest $ 4 billion for the construction of roads, hotels, camps and other infrastructure to support its developed tourist industry, said Chinbat.

“The government creates low, long-term loans for public and private structures for joint cooperation to quickly increase the infrastructure,” she said.

As the interest in Mongolia’s visit, according to the Chinbot, the country’s biggest problem is to ensure that the country grows steadily.

“We must make sure that our natural resources will be … And on the other hand, the locals come from tourists who come to Mongolia,” she said.
