Selena Gomez was nominated for her role in the movie Emilia Perez.

Conclave, about a gossipy group of cardinals who gather in Rome to elect a new pope, leads this year’s Bafta nominations with 12 points.

It is followed by Netflix’s Spanish-language musical Emilia Perez, which tells the story of a Mexican cartel leader who leaves the world of crime to live a new life as a transgender woman.

Leading the way in the Bafta acting categories are Cynthia Eriva and Demi Moore for Best Actress and Adrien Brody and Timothée Chalamet for Best Actor.

But Denzel Washington and Daniel Craig failed to make the shortlist for Gladiator II and Queer respectively.

Some of the surprises include a nomination for Hugh Grant in the leading actor category for the horror film “Heretic” and Saoirse Ronan as a lead actress for “Overtaking”.

Jamie Lee Curtis is nominated in the supporting actress category for The Last Dancer, but the film’s lead actress Pamela Anderson, who plays an aging Las Vegas actress, is not nominated.

The storyline of “Honor” is a little similar to “Beauty” of the 1990s

Another film expected to do well in the current awards season is Honor, which has seven Bafta nominations, including Best Picture.

It tells the story of a stormy romance between a New York sex worker and the son of a rich Russian oligarch.

Mikey Madison is nominated for lead actress and is also up for the public-voted Rising Star award.

Her co-star Yura Borissov is nominated for Best Supporting Actor, while director Sean Baker received his first Bafta nomination for Best Director.

The Brutalist received nine Baftas nominations

Half of the Best Director nominees are first-timers, along with Brutalist’s Brady Corbett, who won the same award at the Golden Globes.

The film, about a Hungarian architect hired by a wealthy American after World War II, has a total of nine contenders and is also considered a strong Oscar contender.

Substance director Karoli Fargit is another first-time director nominee and the only woman nominated in the category.

Demi Moore is nominated for Best Actress for the film just weeks after winning at the Golden Globes, putting her in a strong position to win the Oscar.

British actress Marianne Jean-Baptiste’s nomination in the same category for her portrayal of an irritable woman struggling with depression in “Hard Truths” extended her Oscar nominations.

The Bafta shortlist is often a strong indicator for the Oscars, and last year the winners of the top six categories came together beautifully at the two ceremonies.

Another Oscar-winning film is The Complete Unknown, which tells the story of Bob Dylan’s rise to fame in the 1960s.

It has six Bafta Award nominations, including Best Film, with Timothée Chalamet and Edward Norton nominated in the acting categories.

Kneepcap, about an Irish-language hip-hop trio, also received six nominations, including outstanding British film and film not in the English language.

Blockbuster films performed relatively well in the nominations: “Dune: Part 2” and “Wicked” received seven marks each.

Gladiator II has three nominations, but none in the acting categories, with Paul Mezcal, Pedro Pascal and Washington missing out. Director Sir Ridley Scott was also left out.

Erivo and her Wicked co-star Ariana Grande received their first Bafta nominations, but Wicked did not receive a Best Picture nomination.

Selena Gomez, Zoe Saldaña and Carla Sofia Gascon also received their first Bafta nominations for Emilia Perez.

For the first time, children’s and family films have their own special category at the award.

Wallace and Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl and The Wild Robot are nominated alongside Michael Morpurg’s Kensuke’s Kingdom adaptation and Flow, about animals who must work together to survive a flood.

The film without dialogues was a surprise winner of the Golden Globe Award in the category of animated films.

The Bafta Film Awards, hosted by David Tennant, will take place on February 16 at London’s Royal Festival Hall.
