Eighteen workers who trapped at about 6 pm in the Golden mine in the northwest of Colombia were rescued by emergency crews, the government government said.
According to the AFP news agency, the miners were stuck on Thursday in the El -Minon mine, in the Colombian region of Antioles, after the equipment refusal.
After a 12-hour rescue operation, all employees are in good health, said the National Mining Agency Colombia (AnM).
In a letter sent to the government, a local mayor in Rediac said the mine was obviously unlicensed.
According to the Minister of Energy of Colombia, the operation to release the miners ended only after 3:00 local time (9:00 BST).
A video of the rescue showed that the miners’ colleagues clapped and cheered when they got out of the mine.
Yarley Erasmo Marin, a representative of the local miners association, told the AFP news agency that mechanical failure caused the collapse of the structure designed to prevent landslides, blocking the main output of the mine.
Oxygen had to be trapped by miners through hoses while they were waiting for rescue, the local ABC radio station reports.
The statement AnM said that the mining community should “refrain from illegal mining, which is threatened with life and safety of those involved, and will affect the resources of the country and the environment.”
In Colombia, Colombia is not uncommon, and dozens of deaths have been recorded in recent years.
