Colombia says 57 soldiers stolen by civilians

Colombia’s military personnel say 57 soldiers were abducted by civilians in the southwestern area of Michai.

It states that 31 soldiers were confiscated on Saturday and the rest were abducted on Sunday with a group of more than 200 people.

The military says civilians operate under the pressure of the dissidents of the FARC insurgent group, which has agreed with the peace treaty with the government in 2016.

The mountainous region is a key zone for the production of cocaine and remains one of the most intense in the current conflict with the rebel groups.

In a video on social networks, Brig Gen Federico Albert Mediya said four officers and 53 soldiers were confiscated last weekend.

“It’s called the abduction,” he said.

Local media reports believe the EMC Insurgent Group is the largest branch of FARC – perhaps to steal.

EMC did not commented on this issue.

Michai’s canyon is used to transport cocaine to Pacific ports, and drugs are then illegally sent to other countries.
