Former CIA analyst, who was traced with the classified documents on Israeli’s plans for Iran’s strike, was sentenced to 37 months in prison.
Asif William Rahman, 34, pleaded guilty in January on two articles on intentional maintenance and transfer of information on national protection in accordance with the espionage law.
Authorities say that, using its high level of security, Rahman printed, photographed and sent secret documents. They were later distributed in social media.
Israel spent air strikes in Iran last October, focusing on military monuments in several regions, in response to a flurry launched by Tehran a week earlier.
“For several months, this defendant betrayed the American people and the oath he accepted at his office, tracing some of our country’s closest secrets,” John Eisenberg, Assistant Prosecutor General, said in a press.
In October 2024, documents from the Ministry of Defense were published, which were published on the telegram account with the Iranian telegram.
Documents containing a secret sign were visible between the Alliance’s Five Eye Alliance, consisting of the United States, Britain, Canada, New Zealand and Australia.
As they say, the leaks of documents contained an assessment of the US Israeli plans on the eve of the strike on Iran and the movement of military assets in the preparation.
One was mentioned about Israel’s nuclear capabilities that have never been officially recognized.
Asked about the leak, former President Joe Biden said his “deeply concerned.”
As a result, Israel carried out these air strikes next month, focusing on the military plots in several regions in response to missiles produced by Tehran in a few weeks.
Rahman, who worked abroad, was arrested by the FBI in Cambodia and brought to the United States to the US to threaten the allegations.
