Police in Kenya fired tear gas to disperse the participants of the rally who tried to take up a church, which recently received a significant donation to President William Ruto.

Ruto defended his donation and offered a similar gift to another church in Eldaret.

During the skirmishes, several people were arrested who saw that the participants of the rally were trying to get to church and light fires and use rocks to block the nearby roads.

But the church service went forward with rigid safety for believers, a report on local media.

Bishop Edward Mwi said unnamed people mobilized the “bandits” to disrupt the church service, the Star website reports.

Ruto, the Gospel Christian, defended the donation, saying it was an attempt to resolve the country’s moral breakdown.

“Kenya must know God that we can be ashamed of the people who tell us that we cannot tie with the Church,” his nation quotes “in another church” in Eldaret.

Kenyans were angered by a number of taxes that have been introduced since Ruto was selected in 2022.

He says they needed to pay off the huge debts he inherited from the previous government, but many Kenyans claim that he must first fight public waste and corruption.

Last year, a wave of nationwide protests forced Ruto to withdraw its financing bill that contained a number of taxes.
