The Chinese Ministry of Commerce said it “strongly opposed” US President Donald Trump to escalate tariffs, and promised to take measures to counteract his own rights and interests.
The comments appeared after Trump said he imposed an additional 50% of US import duty from China on Wednesday, if Beijing did not abandon 34% of the tariffs imposed on American products last week.
“The US threat to escalate tariffs in China is a mistake except for a mistake,” the CNBC translation said. “China will never accept it. If the US insists on its way, China will fight to the end.”
