Chet Hanks appreciates his sobriety journey and shares his best sober live advice to others.
“Everything. Everything,” told Hanks, 34, only Weekly US When asked what being sober means to him. Us caught up with the Running Point Star on Friday, March 21, at the Clarins icons event at the Academy Museum in Los Angeles.
“If I was not sober, none of these opportunities would even be possible,” he continued, before sharing his best advice to others who are considering sober themselves.
“My advice is if you think you may have a problem, then you have a problem,” said Hanks, who celebrated three years of sobriety in 2024, Us. “Because if you think about it, the chances are you can make a change and you need to stop thinking and just do it.
He continued, “Don’t look back. That’s the best advice I can give you.”
Actor and son Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson Going on to explain that the decision to “stop hanging around with the people” you used to drink or use around is a large part of sober lifestyle.
“You had to cut off a whole group of friends,” he explained. “And it doesn’t have to be out of it – it can be out of love. You have to tell them, ‘Hey, I love you, but I can’t socialize with you.’ And just keep it a boat like that.
As well as living sober, Hanks enjoys life as a girl’s father – the actor welcomed Michaiah in 2016 with his former partner, Tiffany Miles.
“I think it’s a little easier,” told Hanks – who has credited his daughter and parents for helping him get sober – Us of being a daddy girl. “I don’t know – all I know is having a girl. I don’t know what it’s like to have a son. But I feel like with a son, it’s, like, you want to learn how to be a man. While with a girl, you have to be extremely sweet. And it’s very easy.”
When asked how he prepares his daughter to get into double digits, Hanks simply said Us: “Just take it one day at a time.”
Hanks – who plays a professional ball -basket star Travis Bugg at the popular Netflix show Running Point – Also celebrating the recent renewal of the series.
“Oh man, I’m very happy about it, obviously,” he told Us of the news. “I’m excited to get back to work.”
And while the actor cannot give Us Any insight into what fans can expect from season 2, teased viewers by simply stating that the writers and producers can “actually take it in any way they want.”
“But I’m sure whatever they think will be a lot of fun,” he added.
