Chanel Maya Files Restraining Order After Being Reported Missing

Mayan Chanel Banks filed a restraining order against her mother and cousin a month after she was reported missing.

According to court documents obtained by Us Weeklythe Gossip Girl alum, 36, asked for a temporary restraining order against her cousin Danielle-Tori Singh On Thursday, December 26. Banks also filed for a civil restraining order against her mother and Singh.

In the paperwork, Banks alleged that her mother and cousin had “acted together to harass and spread lies” about her in order to “ruin” her “credibility” and “action.” Banks also claimed that the two women had “manufactured” the story that she was a “missing person” claiming that her husband had murdered her.

“They orchestrated this scheme to publicly humiliate me and ruin my professional acting career,” Banks alleged in the documents.

Banks also claimed that her mother and Singh “burgled” her apartment while her husband, referred to as CJ on social media, was at home. Banks claimed that her mother and cousin “assaulted” CJ and caused “visible injuries to his face and neck.”

TMZ was first to report the news.

In November, Singh and Banks’ mother file a missing person report after a welfare check revealed the actress was not at her home in Los Angeles.

“Five days without hearing from my cousin is red flags and alarm bells,” Singh told Eyewitness News at the time. “She doesn’t go more than 48 hours without talking to me or her mother. That girl is more like a big sister to me.”

The LA police department revealed hours later that Banks has been discovered and she was safe. Banks later release statement to let everyone know she wasn’t lost.

“My name is Chanel Banks, I’m a 36-year-old American, and for my entire life I’ve been carrying the pain of the ritual in silence…abuse, manipulation, and absolute endless torment that I’ve endured continuously since I was a defenseless baby, in the hands of my own so-called family, who are all so concerned about my current whereabouts,” she told True Crime News in a statement in November. “I have met with the police and checked not only that I am fine, but that I am finally free.”

Banks also claimed that she has not been in touch with her relatives for quite some time.

“For decades my family has been my spiritual, physical and emotional warden, giving me no authority over my personality,” he continued. “I was not allowed to make any decisions in life in any way without their approval. …Every time I came close to leaving they would forge official government documents telling lies about my mental health—for the record—I have no mental health record or any other record other than a parking ticket here and there, therefore law enforcement would undoubtedly and mercilessly pursue me.”
