Kenya’s security forces have blocked all major roads leading to Central Nairobi, ahead of the planned nationwide protests.
Most of the city center will be deserted, with closed enterprises and a large presence of security on the streets. Some schools advised students to stay home.
Hundreds of passengers in the early morning and overnight were stranded at checkpoints, some more than 10 km (six miles) from the city center, only through a few vehicles.

Protests on Monday, called Saba Saba (Swahili for July 7), is commemorating the struggle for multi -party democracy in Kenya in the 1990s.
These demonstrations were organized primarily by young people who require good management, greater responsibility and justice for the victims of the police cruelty. They are the last in the wave of anti -government protests that began last year.
At least 19 people were killed on June 25, and thousands of enterprises were plundered and destroyed on the day of nationwide protests, which were held in honor of those killed in last year’s actions against taxation.
Recent demonstrations have become tough, reporting about the “Goons” infiltration, which is accused of robbery and attacking the participants of the action. Civil groups claim that the conspiracies between these groups and the police have strongly denied the police.
On Sunday, an armed gang attacked human rights headquarters in Nairobi. The Human Rights Commission in Kenya conducted a press conference organized by women, which called for an end to violence in the state the day before.
This year marks the 35th anniversary of Saba’s initial protests – a key moment that helped bring a multi -party democracy in Kenya after many years of party rules.
The response of the then government under President Daniel Arape Moi was tough. Many participants of the rally – including the veteran politician, advised Ading, who is currently working with the government, were arrested and tortured, while at least 20 people were killed.
Since then, Saba symbolized civilian resistance and struggle for democratic freedom in Kenya.
