A few early chapters of Star Trek: Travel Just as memorable as “The 37’s,” a chapter where Captain Janeway is able to meet her idolun, Amelia Earhart. It’s a great episode on her own, but watching her is even more rewarding when you know that the woman who played the captain’s personal idol was the woman’s biggest fan behind Janeway. Kate Mulgrew was absolutely idolat By actor Earheart Sharon Lawrence, who both formed an instant bond in the production of this chapter.

What the most Voyage Fans do not know is that, except for her boyfriend Fangirl at Kate Mulgrew, Sharon Lawrence would never have participated Amelia Earhart. Unlike many who made Gameos in this famous franchise, Lawrence was not very familiar with Trek Star outside of The original series. So, she only took her interest in playing Earhart and her desire to meet Mulgrew, someone she had idolized ever since the older woman starred on the soap opera Ryan’s hope.
It may seem strange to think about for modern Star Trek fans, but at the time, the Sharon Lawrence Cameo was needed on the Kate Mulgrew show far more than the actor did. Lawrence recently nominated for Emmy for her performance in the thrilling play Blue nypdSo it provided a little real star power for this new season 2 premiere sci-fi spinoff. As for why she took the role, she later said that it was excited to portray “one of our greatest national heroes” on screen, and soon fell in love with the idea that her character was developing friendship with Janeway, giving these two feminist icons a chance to work together.
Fortunately, working side by side Kate Mulgrew Having fulfilled Sharon Lawrence’s biggest hopes: she reported that it was “a pleasure to work with her” and “I was so impressed with her professionalism.” Between scenes, both had time to bond over various things they had in common, including having a theatrical background. Lawrence also took the time to ask Mulgrew “How she juggles being an actress and a mother,” something that many of her Trek Adoring star fans have also thought of over the years.
While Kate Mulgrew always turned in a great performance, his excellent acting in “The 37’s” was partly due to the presence of Sharon Lawrence. The younger actor previously noted that “the relationship that shared the relationship that shared Kate and I was easily influenced by the relationship that shared Earhart and Janeway.” This is reflected in their on -screen chemistry and helps explain why Lawrence made so much impression on fans despite appearing for only one episode.
Another reason that Kate Mulgrew and Sharon Lawrence are likely to come forward so well is that they share the same mouth feminist ideals. Looking back at their time together, Lawrence noted that playing “peers and leaders” rather than being on the screen “domestic or familiar relationships … always feels good to me.” Their time together was a bit of Serendipity, allowing two unbearable female icons to inspire a new generation of women to get bold to fields they had never gone before.
Unfortunately, this is the only episode where Kate Mulgrew and Sharon Lawrence had the opportunity to operate alongside each other. But these actors made the best of their time together, promoting a script that was already strong into a chapter that Voyage Fans will never forget. And as for Janeway, it is fair to say that this fictional character has joined the real Amelia Earhart in the identities of the most inspirational women in modern history.
