Canelo Alvarez met with Turki Al-Shiekh today and said there is “a possibility” that a fight could happen between him and Terence Crawford. He says he’s always looking to make the “best deals.”
Turki hopes to set up a fight between Alvarez (62-2-2, 39 KOs) and Crawford in 2025 because it is one of the biggest fights that could happen in North America this year. Whether he can make this fight remains to be seen.
Canelo seeks ‘best deals’
Crawford, 37, has yet to say what he will do if he can’t fight Canelo. We know that Terence’s age and fighting at 154 against younger, stronger and older fighters will end up with him losing. He almost lost his last fight, his debut at 154 against WBA junior middleweight champion Israil Madrimov on August 3 last year.
“There’s always an opportunity. We’ll see, but there’s always an opportunity here to make the best deals, and there’s always an opportunity,” Canelo Alvarez told Ring magazine when asked if a fight between him and Terence Crawford is possible next.
“I think it’s going to be another good fight. Both fighters are good fighters. So I think they both have a chance to win,” Canelo said of the February 22 rematch between undisputed light heavyweight champion Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol in Riyadh.
Former world division champion Crawford (41-0, 31 KOs) is looking to challenge Canelo for their unified super middleweight titles this year. He believes he has the talent to overcome his size disadvantage. Crawford believes he has enough size and skill to defeat Canelo.
The Mexican star is showing signs of slowing down in his last two fights against Edgar Berlanga and Jaime Munguia. These are fighters that Canelo probably would have knocked out in 2021 and before, but he was forced to take a 12-round decision to beat them.
