Cameron Diaz Is ‘Just Trying To Stay Alive Like Every Other Mother’

Cameron Diaz has realized what she’s been up to during her 10-year film hiatus – and raising children is at the top of the list.

“I wasn’t keeping up with any kind of training,” Diaz, 52, said of her break from Hollywood in a behind-the-scenes video from Netflix’s Back to Work posted on Wednesday, January 15. “I didn’t do anything public. I said no to everything.”

The actress – whose first film in a decade drops on Netflix Friday, January 17 – revealed that she had started her wine company, Apalianduring his break from acting.

“That’s what I was most focused on,” Diaz explained. “If I did anything other than being a mother and living my day to day.”

The mother of two admitted, “That was pretty much it. I’m trying to stay alive just like every other mother. I try to keep it going.”

Diaz had a hugely profitable career, pumping out 38 films in 20 years before taking a hiatus after 2014. The Other Woman, Sex Tape a Annie.

The following year, the Charlie’s Angel star changed her focus to building her home life. He married Diaz Benji Madden in 2015 and in 2018 she revealed she was “semi-retired” as an actress before explaining that she was “actually retired.”

In 2019, Diaz and Madden, 45, welcomed their first child, a daughter Raddixby surrogate. The pair expanded their family in 2022 when their son, Cardinalwas born by surrogate.

That same year, Diaz came out of retirement to start filming Back to Work with Jamie Foxxwith whom he worked Annie almost a decade earlier.

In their new film, Diaz and Foxx, 57, play ex-CIA agents and married couple Emily and Matt, who are drawn back into the world of espionage when their secret identities are blown.

Back to Work kick started Diaz’s return to Hollywood. Since then she has filmed Apple TV+’s Result with Keanu Reeves a Matt Bomer and is about to resume his role as Princess Fiona is Shrek 5.

“Cameron feels she is settled now and in a good place mentally,” a source shared only for it Us Weekly‘ cover story earlier this month. “She has a fresh outlook on work and the industry as a whole.”

A second insider noted that Diaz’s “goal” moving forward is to “pursue projects — whether acting, business or family life — that feel meaningful and authentic.”
