From being a senior in college and a star Iowa women’s basketball team who went to a national championship, got drafted right after and jumped into the WNBA season, a lot has happened in life Caitlin Clark last year.
The Indiana Fever star was cut from the Olympic women’s basketball roster last summer, a decision that sparked a lot of debate, but Clarke said the break in the WNBA season was necessary because of the 2024 Paris Games.

“We had the Olympic break, so I got a month off in the middle of the season because we had to suspend the WNBA season because, you know, 12 girls go and play in the Olympics. And everybody else, you don’t work out a lot, so (I) got like a month off, which I really needed because I’ve only been playing basketball for a year straight,” Clark said during a recent appearance on “New heights.“
Fever started 1-8 but rallied to finish 20-20 and make the playoffs. A big reason for the Fever’s late-season push was Clarke’s improvement after the break.
Before the Olympic break, she averaged 17.1 points per game. She looked rejuvenated after the break, averaging 23.1 points per game.
Jason Kells asked how Clarke would describe her whirlwind year in two words.

“I would say, like, I don’t know, maybe life-changing? All in a good way, like, I mean, things just change really fast, you guys know. It’s the way the world is and especially with social media, people see a lot of your life, but that’s what makes it interesting and that’s why I’ve had so many interesting opportunities, so it’s crazy to look back a year ago today or so At the time, for example, I was just starting my senior year in college,” Clark said.
“And obviously, you know, people knew who we were and people attended our games, but obviously it wasn’t on the scale that it is now. So, life just changes so fast, but that’s what makes it fun and cool, and, you know, a new chapter in my life, like, I moved here to Indianapolis, and I feel like I’m still in the Midwest, i know you (jason i Travis Kelce) like in the Midwest.”
Clarke said she is looking forward to having more of a routine in her second season with the Fever after a quick transition from college basketball in the WNBA.

“Yeah, sure, I mean, it’s not like any other professional sport, really, in terms of, so I played in a national championship, and I basically went to the draft right after that, got picked, and then you’re basically packing Like, you’re moving in April, you’re not even going to finish your senior year of college,” Clark said.
“And I guess for you guys, what was it, you go to the (NFL) combine, how long do you have to prepare for the combine, two months? And then you are drafted, and you still have a little time to get acclimatized in a new city, you have a camp, everything is not like a camp for us, like a week and a half.
But Clark also said there are benefits to having things move so quickly.
“I also think it was a bit good, like you don’t have time to think things through, like it’s just, boom, boom, boom, boom, like you’re just on your way to the next one. But at the same time, you’re like, I never graduated from college, but maybe you don’t have a lot of time to think about it. I think that’s definitely the most amazing part of, you know, women’s professional basketball and , obviously college basketball as well, it’s just these changes,” Clark said.

Despite the rapid transition of Art WNBAClark was still great.
She won the WNBA Rookie of the Year, was named an All-Star and led the WNBA in assists, setting the record for assists in a season with 337.
Clark set the rookie record for points scored in a season with 769 and had 122 three-pointers in her season, which is the second most points in a single season in WNBA history.
