Buffy predicted the future of character by being 100% incorrect

Buffy The Vampire Slayer Showrunner Joss Whedon is famous for planning the main lines of story years in advance … for example, preceding the existence of Dawn Buffy’s sister in the seasons 3 and 4 before her presentation in season 5. However, there is one obvious example early in the show about the show about how many Whedon had thought of an angel’s love life. In Season 2 episode “Halloween,” Willow secures Buffy (not to mention the audience) that the vampire would never date Cordelia, but both eventually fall in love on the spinoff show Angel.

Why did the slayer talk about Cordelia and an angel hooking in the first place? At the start of “Halloween,” it was late up to a date with her Beau biting because she had to put some of her fellow luckers down. This gives Cordelia time to hit an angel in the bronze, causing Buffy to worry that she is not the kind of woman her lover a century much likes.

Watching “Halloween” for the first time, it is difficult to disagree with Willow when he says that “an angel would never fall for an Act (Cordelia).” Bestie Buffy’s witch assures him “She’s not his kind,” but Buffy begins to worry that she’s not her kind. They ultimately investigate how women wore and acted when an angel was a man, causing Buffy to wear a dress to suit an 18th -century traitor.

Have PuffThird term, Cordelia left Sunnydale to join an angel in Los Angeles. The Angel Spinoff presented multiple lovers to his title character over the years, but no more surprise than Cordelia. He started working alongside an angel in season 1, and their business relationship was quickly blooming to real friendship.

For most of AngelSimply put, our title character and Cordelia had a friendly relationship, but that changed after Buffy died. Cordelia helped an angel process the trauma of the death of the killer and they realized (frustrated, frustrated slowly) they had feelings towards each other. Unfortunately, the show never explored their relationship, as it was considered to the higher plane and returned by Jasmine, a villain made so much more frightening by some of the worst writing in each of the Whedonverse.

From a television perspective, it is not surprising that Angel and Cordelia collapsed in love, if only shortly … after all, a TV show can only hang a hot lead characters before us before making them a couple. However, it is a bit shocking that Willow, a wise and enchanting character, is so wrong for the possibility that Angel and Cordelia will ever grab. Even more shocking is that Joss Whedon rejected the right possibility to what would become the spinoff’s most famous relationship.

Of course the Angel Spinoff did not exist when Willow made her predictions, so she nor Whedon could guess that the vampire and cordelia would become leading characters that are supposed to be a messy romance. Another reason to get easy on Willow’s wrong prediction is that even a witch like her can not see the future… certainly, the angel pinned for buffy in season 2 was never likely to fall for the air cordelia, but both characters had changed dramatically by the time they fell in love. And Willow himself changes dramatically in even less time, coming out as gay and falling in love with Tara.

As it happens, it is easy for Joss Whedon to predict small sisters, but not so easy to predict issues (magical or otherwise) of the heart.
