The death is still under investigation and the OIJ is awaiting further consequences of autopsy and toxicology tests to determine the exact cause of death.

“With heavy hearts we are sad to announce the passing of our youngest son, Miller,” read the statement. “He was 14 and has left us far too soon after becoming ill along with several other family members while on holiday. We have so many questions and so many answers at this point, but we know he died peacefully in his sleep on Friday morning, March 21st.”
The statement continued, “Miller was a dear son and brother and we could not yet understand our life without his infectious smile. He loved football, baseball, golf, hunting, fishing, family and friends. He lived life to the full every day.”
Brett played all 14 seasons from his MLB career with the Yankees before retiring at the end of the 2021 season.
The Yankees Foundation also released a statement of their own after the announcement of the death of Miller.
“Words feel trivial and inadequate in trying to describe such an unimaginable loss,” said the team’s statement. “It was not just Brett who literally grew up in this institution for more than 17 years – so did his wife, Jessica, and their two boys, Hunter and Miller.
The Yankees statement continued, “Our love of the Gardner family is unconditional and absolute, and we will offer our continued support in understanding their desire for privacy at this time. Miller is resting in peace.”
