The Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) witnessed a touching moment on the field as Mehidy Hasanthe captain of Khulna Tigers, had a special gesture for King of Chittagong‘s Tom O’Connell to the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium in Mirpur. The incident received wide appreciation among the cricketing community.
The incident happened when Khulna Tigers were playing Chittagong Kings and the latter were chasing a total of 204 runs. Haider Ali was fired by Mohammad Nawaz which gave way to the arrival of Australian batsman O’Connell to the crease. But its arrival took longer than expected. Baffled and frustrated at wasting time, Hasan called for a timeout dismissal from O’Connell. The field umpire ruled in favor of the Tigers, but after revisiting his decision, Tigers skipper Hasan decided to withdraw his appeal. O’Connell had already returned to the pavilion and was called back to the crease to bat for the Kings.
However, O’Connell failed to capitalize on the Tigers’ chance of grace as the Australian batsman was dismissed for a golden duck. Mohammad Nawaz who put in a stellar performance for his team with the bowl. The incident revealed Hasan’s true sportsmanship. Had the Tigers skipper not withdrawn his appeal, O’Connell would have been the first batsman in BPL history to be dismissed in such a manner.
The only other such incident in international cricket was when Angelo Matthews was sent back to the pavilion during ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2023 in a match against Bangladesh when pattern Shakib Al-Hasan he enforced the decision against the Sri Lankan batsman.

In reply, Chittagong King’s effort with the bat was disappointing. In the end, the Kings were bowled out for 166 in 18.5 overs. Thus, the Tigers won the match by 37 runs.
