Ricardo Sandoval (27-2, 18 kos) dethroned WBA champion and WBC Flyweight andshiro Teraji (25-2, 16 kos), winning a divided decision of 12 rounds in a nuisance on Wednesday night at Yokohama Tantai in Yokohama, Japan.
The scores were 117-110, 115-112 for Sandoval and 114-113 for Teraji. You can argue that the judge who marked him for Sandova, 26, was too generous in his scoreboard because he was much closer than in 117-110. Interestingly, a visiting fighter received favorable scores for a wide margin that the boy from home, Teraji.
At first, Teraji seemed to be too good for Sandoval, using fast movements and combinations to get the best of the North -Americans. In the fifth round, Teraji, 33, fell Sandoval with a right hand on his head.
Sandoval returned strong, attacking theraji with body traits and using non -stop pressure to wear out the largest fighter. Sandoval’s pressure slowly took Teraji, which seemed exhausted by the ninth round. Its speed, movement and power deteriorated in the last four rounds of the effects of the constant attacks of Sandoval.
The end result was due to the fatigue of Teraji instead of Sandoval, which seemed especially great. What could have played a role in the fight was the brutal 12 -round struggle that Teraji had four months ago against Seigo Yuri Akui on March 13 in Japan.
Although Teraji won by a twelfth round, it was a closing contest until then, and had made many Akui shots. It was a mistake on the part of Teraji returning to the ring for a title defense against a Sandoval, motivated without rest.
Teraji’s energy levels were not what they had been during his fight against Akui, and he treated the same type of pressure throughout this struggle, but against a better fighter than Sandoval.
The Time of Morning of Teraji vs. Sandoval tonight made it difficult for the fans to look. Many North fans -Americans did not have the opportunity to see the struggle. In addition, the promotion of the struggle was not there to create much interest because the casual boxing fans get up at 5 am.
