Boxing Results: Rolly ‘Romero wins WBA title with a decisive victory over heavy favorite Ryan Garcia

Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero (17-2, 13 kos) rejuvenated his career by defeating the heavy favorite Ryan Garcia (24-2, 20 kos) for a unanimous 12-round decision to win the WBA heavy weight headline on Saturday night in New York City.

Romero scored a great defeat from Ryan in the second round. Garcia never seemed to recover from this shot to fight with the intensity he needed to get a shot to win. The combination of Rolly’s defeat and the constant pressure on Ryan was a key factor in his victory tonight.

The scores were 115-112, 115-112 and 118-109. Rolly surpassed Garcia the section of the rounds of the championship, controlling the action from the ninth place.

Romero’s power kept Garcia in defense and did not want to risk -trying to land anything meaningful. When Ryan began trying to return to the middle rounds, Rolly closed him by applying pressure with his power blows and power.

Romero was loading in great punches and they barely needed. Just seeing that these shots were damaged can it prevent Ryan from getting the ideas of fighting more aggressively. I didn’t want to cut off again.

Garcia seemed slow, slow, tired and fear throughout the fight. The second round took too much from him, destroying his will to win. It seemed to only give up.

It is not known if Ryan struggled with an injury to one of his arms, because he did not throw his left hook and rarely used his right hand during the fight. Allowed Rolly to dictate the struggle and control the action. Rolly seemed to realize -during the last quarter of the struggle that Garcia was not willing to launch. At that time, Romero gained confidence and did everything he wanted from Rounds 9-12.
