IBO Super Middleweight Champion Osleyys Iglesias (14-0, 13 kos) retained its unbeaten record, scoring an eighth technical tie of Vladimir Shishikin (16-2, 10 kos) in an IBF title eliminator 168-LB on Thursday night at Montreal Casino de Montreal, Canada.
Iglesias was opened by Shishkin’s defense with seven rounds. In the eighth, the Cuban Churches changed tactics, unloading in Shishikin with a punch after doing -badly with a left. Shishkin attempted his best to survive by moving, grabbing and covering.
Without Shishikin, the referee, Michael Griffin, had no choice but to intervene and stop the contest. It was a good play because Iglesias was downloaded to Shishikin at will with punches, and he was too injured to say goodbye to his own defense.
If the referee had allowed to continue, Osleys would surely have set Shishkin. He saw the condition that Vladimir was and could not absorb another 20 consecutive heads.
Shishikin had done well for most of the contest, using his punch and retirement method to prevent him from chewing on the powerful right hook, at the top and left. It was not nice to see Shishikin’s constant style, but it was effective.
Osley’s best rounds before the eighth were the third and fifth in which he landed some brutal right hooks that took the Shishkin head. It took them well, but you could say that it was only a matter of time before Iglesias let him out.
Olaseys’ shots had a strange look. Cuban Churches seemed uncomfortable with the way he threw shots and often missed himself. It had such a big look, but when the punches landed, you could hear the sound and judge of Shishikin’s reaction who did not enjoy the experience of being in the ring with him.
It was a different experience than Shikikin happened in his previous fight against William Scull, which he did not fight aggressively, and his punch was low. Osleys, 27, was in attack all night, forcing Shishkin to move to survive.
A new threat to Canelo
With the victory, Iglesias, 27, is now the mandatory IBF challenger for the Canelo Alvarez title. The way Osleys looked at tonight, I don’t think the winner of Canelo vs. Terence Crawford will agree to fight him. It has a strong blow and has power in both hands. In my opinion, I doubt that Canelo or Crawford would have the opportunity to fight Iglesias. You may have to wait until the IBF title is undressed or detached.
The way Iglesias makes their traits makes it difficult to detect them until it is too late. It looks like a larger version of the heavyweight champion, Rafael Espinoza.
