Aitana Bonmati is “so eager” to play the opening match of the women Euro 2025 in Spain despite being discharged from the hospital a few days ago, according to the main coach Montse Tome.
Bonmati received treatment for viral meningitis after being admitted to the Hospital de Madrid at the end of June, but was discharged on Sunday, a few days before the start of the tournament, which began on Wednesday.
The Ballon d’Or winning midfielder is a key figure in Tome’s squad, as they set up his vision in another international trophy after succeeding in the 2023 World Cup, where England defeated in the final.
The young man, 27, was winner of the Golden Ball for the tournament player in Australia and New Zealand two years ago, and Tome has broadcast Bonmati’s desire to introduce himself to his B-group workshop against Portugal in Bern on Thursday.

However, the head of Spain warned against running the Barcelona star to the action too soon.
“We have to restrain,” Tome said. “She (Bonmati) so eager: we have to retain -a little. Their health is the first and most important.”
Despite being a doubt for Thursday’s Iberian shock, Tome said that Bonmati’s recovery was encouraged.
“According to medical staff, their progress is positive,” said Tome.
“Health comes first and has been able to complete all the necessary tasks.”
