Bohachuk Eyes Undisputed at 154

Serhii Bohachuk says his goal is to become undisputed at 154 after his sixth-round stoppage win over Ishmael Davis in their WBC title eliminator last Saturday in Riyadh.

154 lb. targets

Bohachuk might take some time to achieve this goal, as he would have to set up fights with these three champions:

– Sebastian Fundora: WBC and WBO
– Bakhram Murtazaliev: IBF
– Terence Crawford: WITH

It’s unlikely that Crawford will agree to fight Bohachuk unless he’s flush with money as he looks for the mother-load payday against Canelo Alvarez at 168. He won’t want to risk his undefeated record after the close call he had against former WBA 154-pound champion Israil. Madrimov.

Bohachuk (25-2, 24 KOs) is in position to fight the winner of the Feb. 22 bout between WBC interim junior middleweight champion Vergil Ortiz Jr. and Israil Madrimov. If Vergil wins this fight, it would set up a rematch between Bohachuk and him. Turki Alalashikh may have to get involved to convince Ortiz Jr. (22-0, 21 KOs) to fight Serhii again.

Vergil Jr. he beat Bohachuk by a controversial 12-round majority decision on August 10 last summer, and many fans believe it was a steal. Interestingly, Ortiz Jr. he has shown no interest in fighting Bohachuk again after that match. Some believe he doesn’t want to risk getting hit.

The Blue Flame

“Bohachuk is a machine. This guy just doesn’t stop hitting. He comes forward and keeps punching,” Teddy Atlas told his YouTube channel, reacting to Serhii Bohacuk’s knockout victory over Ishmael Davis on Saturday night in Riyadh.

Bohachuk is now in the driver’s seat. He just won the WBC title eliminator and he deserves it. Fans will agree with me; some of them thought he was winning against Vergil Ortiz. I thought it was very close. I gave it to Ortiz. It was very close. Some will say he got what he deserved now that he got another shot at a title.

His punches are straight and to the point; they are on target. There is no fat in between. It’s hard to counter each other after you’re done because sometimes it stays there for a split second. You can counter it back or time it up the middle,” Atlas said of Bohachuk.

With the win over Davis, Bohachuk is the WBC Mandatory for Sebastian Fundora’s belt. He is supposed to fight Errol Spence in the first half of 2025, but it remains to be seen if that match will happen. If so, Bohachuk will be ready to take on the winner or take the WBC belt if it becomes vacant.

“This guy (Bohachuk) doesn’t throw anything away. It puts pressure, good pressure,” said Atlas. “You see a flame, but when you see a pure flame, you see nothing. You see blue. When you see another flame, you see red, orange. But when you see a pure, intense flame, sometimes it’s only blue. Bohachuk is a blue flame .There is nothing fat.

“There’s no orange. There’s no red. That’s the difference between somebody who just throws punches and a guy who throws them the right way. His fight, the punches are thrown the right way. He’s got a blue flame. The fight (Bohachuk vs. Davis) was on point the whole time. He dropped Davis with a left hook. He should have been in handcuffs.

“It wasn’t a strong enough clinch, and he (Bohachuk) got loose and threw a short left hook inside and dropped Davis with it. He kept punching, and that at the end of the sixth round, Davis’ corner did the right thing. They stopped the fight.

Looking at the belts

“He dropped him because, actually, they were ready. You don’t see that too often. But when it comes down to it, there’s an art to boxing. There’s an art to holding on. Davis didn’t tie him up all right, and Bohachuk moved. There was still some slack. If you’re going to catch somebody, there shouldn’t be any slack,” Atlas said.

Bohachuk wasn’t holding back when he dropped Davis in the second round with a left hook. The two were close, and Bohachuk connected with a left hand he didn’t see.
