Promoter Bob Arum says that Keyshawn Davis is the “next successor” to replace Vasily Lomachenko with his first rank company after Loma’s retirement today. Arum believes that Keyshawn (13-0, 9 kos) is the right man to fill the gap left by the world champion of three Lomachenko divisions.
The fans would disagree that Keyshawn was the one who would take care of Lomachenko, but he cannot blame Arum of wanting him. He has dumped a lot of money in Davis’s career and wants to be a star. However, promoters cannot force the public to like a fighter if he does not exceed the opposition at the elite level.
He worked for Arum to turn Tyson Fury into a star, and has only two notable wins in his resume: fading Wladimir Klitschko, 39, and Deontay Wilder. It is harder to turn a fighter into a mega-star at 135, 140 and 147 because they have to fight against a good opposition. They cannot cope with washing boys who are paper champions, as we saw with fury.
Comparison of Davis vs. Lomachenko
Unfortunately, Keyshawn’s credentials are not as spectacular as Loma. Davis was struck by Andy Cruz de Cuba at the 2020 Olympic Games and had to settle for a silver medal. Lomachenko captured two gold medals at the Ukraine Olympic Games and could have won a third and fourth if he had decided to stay for the fans.
As a professional, Vasily captured world titles in three weight classes. For Keyshawn to equalize it, it should go to 140 and 147 to win belts. With the proper type of clothing, Davis can capture a second world title at 140, but he will not win a titles in 147, provided that Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis and Brian Norman Jr. are still around.

“One of my fighters, Vasily Lomachenko, retired today, and the next successor to him is Keyshawn. So I will want to the next two years,” said promoter Bob Arum. Fighthype. “It’s okay. Words don’t bother me,” Arum said about the setback between Keyshawn and Abdullah Mason on stage.
“As long as they keep their hands on themselves, they can say whatever they want from each other because, if they are 3 years, 2 years or 1 year, they will end up fighting with each other. Abdullah has not had almost the experience that Keyshawn has. So he needs this experience before he is willing to go out in the ring with Keyshawn.”
