Facebook/Dalyce CurryRetired actress Dalyce Curry died in the ongoing wildfires in Los Angeles. She was 95.
“About an hour ago the coroner confirmed that her remains were found in the property. #RIPMOMMADEE 🕊️,” Curry’s great-granddaughter, Dalyce Kelleyhe wrote through Facebook Sunday, January 12. “We had a great run. She has affected my life in so many ways. This loss is devastating.”
Curry appeared in various films including The Ten Commandments, The Lady Sings the Blues and most notably, The Blue Brothers. But to the Curry family, she was best known as Momma D.
When the wildfires broke out in Los Angeles last week, Kelley — who served as Curry’s caregiver — shared via social media on Jan. 8 that her great-grandmother’s home in Altadena was destroyed by the Eaton Fire. He explained that they could not locate or contact Curry during that time.
“My grandma’s house burned down has anyone seen MOMMA DEE,” Kelley wrote through Facebook at the time. “In the search shelter for the third time. Not here.”
Kelley had last seen her great-grandmother the day before, and that’s when the devastating fire in the Pacific Palisades first started. Kelley was later escorted by officers to what was left of Curry’s home.
“It was total devastation,” he told a local ABC 7 news outlet. “Everything was gone except his blue Cadillac.”
Kelley too shared movie of the destruction via her Facebook page. While on the property, Kelley called out to see if Curry was somewhere in the rubble.
On January 7, an extreme wind storm caused by Santa Ana gusts led to fast-burning brush fires along Sunset Boulevard and Palisades Drive. Many drivers left their vehicles to seek safety, according to the Los Angeles Times. The same day, the Eaton Fire also started. The cause of both fires is under investigation.
Currently, the Eaton Fire is 33 percent contained while the Pacific Palisades Fire is only 14 percent contained. Back CNN24 people have died as a result of the ongoing fires. Governor of California Gavin Newsom He said there were “probably many more” deaths, as people were still missing and search and rescue efforts continued.
Former Australian child actor Rory Sykes also die in the ongoing wildfires in Los Angeles. He was 32 years old.
“It is with great sadness that I have to announce the death of my beautiful son @Rorysykes in the Malibu fires yesterday. I am absolutely heartbroken,” Rory’s mother, writer Shelley Sykeswrote through X on Thursday, January 9. “(He was) an Australian born in Britain living in America, a lovely son, a gift born on my birthday and his grandmother’s birthday 29 July 92.”
