Ask someone to name the most popular 80s action shows, and surely you will hear Miami Vice. A-team. A knight. Pi magnum., and maybe even The falling guy Before they remember one of the most popular shows of the decade: Wordwolf. Even if you’ve never seen one chapter of the helicopter action series, you know exactly what everything is. Now, thanks to the Roku channel, you can watch the entire series, and realize how dark and innovative land cutting was season 1, and how quickly the whole production collapsed apart.
Wordwolf Stars of Jan-Michael Vincent as the stringfellow Hawke who is the remarkable name, a military test pilot which, through a series of double crossings, finds himself in the possession of the experimental stealth helicopter with every shadow government and organization out for his head. Season 1 includes Hawke working for, and against, the company, a prominent evil organization that happens to be the least of evil, in a series of missions that happen to reflect the flashlights of the real world in the Cold War. It’s dark, Hawke is forced to make decisions with no good answer, and the focus of the episodes on a geopolitical play gives him more poles than you would expect from a show for a senior helicopter.
Season 1, from retrospective, was a highlight WordwolfWith the following two seasons devolved to execute Hokey more in line with A knight than Tom Clancy’s novel. That and Ernest Borgnine, who played Hawke’s friend and full -back Dominic Santini, was removed from the show in one of the most dramatic ways possible, by killing his character to the point where there was no doubt that he was not coming back. In addition, the amazing air fighting was clearly shorter and less cinematic, but in the show’s defense, when that theme song begins and Stringer Hawke lands the fatal missile, it’s as amazing the 20th time as the first time.
As the series exploded in popularity, Jan-Michael Vincent, who was already Golden Globe’s multi-time winner, was almost overnight, the star with the highest pay on television. CBS knew, without it, there was no show. Disturbed by personal demons encouraged by the sudden unexpected, Vincent’s alcoholism made it impossible to work with, and in a rare move, the whole show was canceled, and then sold to the USA for a complete redo, from top to bottom with a completely new cast.
That’s why most fans Wordwolf Excuse the series ended when Jan-Michael Vincent left. The USA did not even have the real helicopter when selling, forcing the last round of episodes to rely on old photos, or, in some funny cases, the replica toys filling. And yet, although the show fell apart behind the scenes, there is no more example of operating the 80s.
Wordwolf Combined Cold War Paranoia, Hokey Action, Bommian Synth Score, and a leading charismatic man to the perfect 80s package that could never be imitated. Have tried other shows, including Street hawk (Wordwolf with a motorcycle), but they all crashed and burned. Miami Vice and Team A. Re -drawn for the big screen, but no one dared to bring back Stringer Hawke and his experimental plane.
Wordwolf Now streaming on the Roku channel, but make sure you throw before season 4.
